VA PREPARES FOR ARMED FORCES WEEK
May 6, 2014
Every year, the city of Milwaukee shows support for our troops by celebrating Armed Forces Week, to honor and acknowledge Milwaukee-area men and women serving in the armed forces. This year, VA team members Phil and Michelle have led the public relations efforts for Armed Forces Week, which will be held May 12—17. Whether they are attending early morning meetings with the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee, updating the AFW website and social media accounts, issuing releases or coordinating events with media, Team VA sure has been busy these past few months helping with event preparations!
This year’s Armed Forces Week celebration invites the public to show their support for service members at various events throughout the city of Milwaukee. The week’s events include luncheons, banquets, dances, a golf tournament, a motorcycle ride and military display, which will feature distinguished guest speakers including former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Navy Captain, James Lovell; Governor Scott Walker; President and CEO of the Marinette Marine Corporation, Charles Goddard; Commander of the 128th Air Refueling Wing, Col. Dan Yenchesky; Bronze Star Recipient, Maj. Tom Mielcarek; Public Affairs Officer for the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Gary Kunich and 1st Sgt. Erik J. Starkey.
With Armed Forces Week quickly approaching, Team VA has been hard at work preparing for the week-long event. VA is honored to be a part of this annual city-wide celebration to honor those serving in the Armed Services of the United States, and looks forward to a successful Armed Forces Week in May!
