VA Helps Make USS Milwaukee Commissioning Kick-Off Breakfast a Success

February 17, 2014

On Tuesday, February 11, the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) Commissioning Committee held a kick-off breakfast for Milwaukee area community and business leaders at Discovery World to jump start year-long preparations in anticipation of the ship’s spring 2015 commissioning ceremony.  The commissioning will be a momentous occasion in both Milwaukee and Naval history as the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) will be the first ship to be commissioned in her namesake city, among the hands that built her.

In the weeks leading up to the breakfast, Team VA worked tirelessly to put together brochures, sponsorship materials and media kits, providing information about the ship, the commissioning committee and the Navy’s LCS program.  After alerting the media of the event, Vollrath Associates coordinated interviews and assisted in event preparations to ensure the event would go off without a hitch.  The response from the local community was astounding!

Event attendees and media packed Pier Wisconsin early Tuesday morning to hear from Navy and government dignitaries as they voiced their support for the ship and discussed what the commissioning of the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) means for the city of Milwaukee and the rest of Wisconsin.  Guests were honored to hear from Vice Admiral Dirk Debbink, USS Milwuakee (LCS 5) Commanding Officer, Commander Michael Brasseur and President of Marinette Marine, Chuck Goddard in addition to special guest speakers Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, County Executive Chris Abele and Governor Scott Walker.

It was overwhelming to see such strong support for the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5), the U.S. Navy and the men and women fighting to protect our freedom.  VA was honored to be a part of this event and is looking forward to providing public relations support for all of the events leading up to the spring 2015 commissioning ceremony.
